Mike Greene, long time Bristol Eastern assistant soccer and track coach, was honored as the recipient of the Ralph Papazian Award at the annual Breakfast of Champions held on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving at St. Paul Catholic High School.
The Ralph Papazian Award has been presented annually at the Breakfast of Champions since 1995. Named in honor of the former Athletic Director and Mayor of Bristol, the award recognizes a local coach for his contributions to the community.
Greene, a graduate of Bristol Eastern High School, is a physical education teacher at Greene-Hills School and has served as an assistant in both boys soccer and track for more than 35 years.
Greene spoke about his commitment to the Bristol community and urged the athletes present to have passion for the sport, to work hard and most of all to have fun.
Sponsored by the Bristol Sports Hall of Fame and First Bristol Federal Credit Union, the breakfast honored scholar athletes from all three local high schools including the captains of each of the fall sports as well as the senior football players from all three schools. Coaches Jude Kelly of St. Paul, Jeff Papazian of Bristol Central and Paul Phillipon of Bristol Eastern each spoke briefly about their teams.
