Coral Richardson BSHOF Inductee 2011, Competes in the 2017 World Masters Games in New Zealand

Coral Richardson, who was inducted into the Bristol Sports Hall of Fame in 2011, competed in the 2017 World Masters Games in New Zealand between  Apr. 21-30. She played on the Women’s 60 Volleyball Team in representing the U.S. The team competed against two Brazilian teams and one each from Russia and Australia, losing to Russia for a bronze medal.

Coral, who is a utility player in being able to perform at different positions, filled the roles of middle and outside hitter, as well as middle blocker in the World Masters, those with the theme this year of “For the Love of the Sport.”

“We were impressed with the competition,” she said. “We really enjoyed it.”

She played for Bristol Eastern and SCSU and has been competing with U.S. volleyball since she was 35 years old in being a member of several different age group teams taking part in both national and world competitions. One of these tournaments is the prestigious Huntsman Games, which was played in St. George, Utah, this year. In addition, she’s played on numerous teams throughout the U.S. in staying active with her sport.

“It allows you to travel, see the world, meet incredible people, and it motivates me to stay in shape so I can continue to play the game I love.”she said.
