The Bristol Sports Hall of Fame is sad to announce Bob Montgomery’s passing at the age of 79. Bob and John Fortunato co-founded the HOF in 1997. Their vision and dedication to preserving Bristol’s rich sports history have endured for the past 27 years, enabling the HOF to continue growing and providing meaningful programs for students and adults.
Bob was elected to the BSHOF in 2014 and remained a director until his passing. Several years ago, Bob took over the role of City Historian and kept the history and, more importantly, the stories of Bristol and its people alive in his columns in the Bristol Press.
Bob knew many people and never spoke poorly of anyone. He did many good deeds for others that most people didn’t know about and never sought recognition for. He will be missed by everyone, including his HOF family. May he Rest in Peace.
Bob’s life will be celebrated at the Bristol Historical Society on Sunday, March 2, from 1 to 5 p.m. There will be no public services.
