For nearly half a century Bill Sweet has stood as a steady guiding force for the Bristol Eastern soccer team. A graduate of Bristol Eastern where he played soccer for four years, Sweet also ran track in college for Tilton and Ithaca.
After a short stint as JV coach, Sweet became head coach in 1970 and went on to guide the Lancers to three conference championship and a .598 winning percentage in a career spanning nearly 800 games. During that time Sweet has coached numerous All State players as well as two All New England selections.
In 1994 he was selected to coach the Connecticut Senior Bowl All Stars and was named New England Coach of the Year. The Connecticut High School Coaches Association chose him Connecticut High School Soccer Coach of the Year in 1999. From 1992-1995 he led the Lancers to 43 consecutive regular season games without a loss. He was the winner of the Ralph Papazian Leadership Award in 2000.
