Bob Montgomery

Induction Class Of 2014

Back To Inductee List

Bob, a 1963 Bristol Eastern graduate and Bristol native,  began writing local sports in 1987, first for the monthly Citizen publication and two years later as a sports columnist/correspondent for the Bristol Press. Through these endeavors he sought to meet the best of Bristol’s sports past and write about these sports heroes.   He gave talks on Bristol’s sports history and from time-to-time would set up a pictorial display on the subject.

In the late winter/early spring of 1997, he was approached by John Fortunato about organizing a Bristol Sports Hall of Fame and the two immediately agreed  “to do it.” Bob served as the first president and has remained a member of the Hall Of Fame board of  directors, while continuing to write for the Bristol Press.

He is a member of the Bristol Tramps Committee, as well as one of its honorees. Bob also serves Bristol through numerous non-sports organizations. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve between 1966-72.

In 2016 the Korean War Veterans organization awarded Bob their Man of the Year Award and that was followed up in 2017 with the City of Bristol selecting Bob their Hometown Hero award.
