A star in both football and baseball at Bristol Central, he helped lead the Rams to their first ever state football championship appearance in 1979. He was a starting fullback for three years as the Rams won three Colonial Conference championships. He was a two-time All-Conference player as a fullback and linebacker, he earned second team All-State honors in his senior year, while serving as team captain.
He was the starting catcher and played in the outfield for both Bristol Central and the Bristol American Legion baseball team, where he also served as captain.
Chuck earned varsity letters in both baseball and football at the University of Pennsylvania. He was the starting fullback on two Ivy League Championship teams, was the team’s leading scorer in his senior year, and was named Team Most Valuable Player.
