Dave Mills was a three-sport athlete at both Bristol High and Bristol Eastern High Schools, playing football, basketball and baseball.

A member of the first class to graduate Eastern in 1960, he was a co-captain in both football and baseball. he played football and baseball at Southern Connecticut State University before joining the staff at Bristol Eastern as a physical education teacher.

He served as head football coach at Eastern for 26 years and during his tenure he mentored many All-State and All-Conference players. The lone Eastern football coach to win 100 career games, he was twice named “Coach of the Year” by the CIAC. In 1988, his lancers won Bristol’s lone scholastic state football championship. He also coached wrestling, both boys and girls basketball and girls track at the school.

He served as head football coach for the Nutmeg All-Star team and was president of the Northern Connecticut Chapter Football Foundation & Hall of Fame. He was football committee chairman of the CIAC and initiated All-Star teams for the state coaches association. He held a number of terms as Bristol Sports Hall of Fame President.

In 2016 he received the “Spirit of Bristol Award”.
