Dennis Schermerhorn, a 1971 Bristol Eastern High graduate, was a standout multi-sports athlete at the school.

In 1970, he placed third at the regional wrestling tournament and set records as quarterback of the football team.  The football teams were city champs in 1969 and 1970 and he completed 99 passes for 1,732 yards to lead the league his senior year.  He passed for 308 yards and three TD’s in the 1970 Thanksgiving Day Game setting a record.

He went on to become the first starting freshman quarterback at CCSU where he won the Mack & Walsh Blue Devil Award twice while leading the team to a 9-1 mark in being ECAC champions in 1973.  He went on to play on championship teams between 1978 and 1981 in the New Britain Flag Football League, once connecting for six TD’s in a game.
