Diane S. Connolly swam at Bristol High School, graduating in 1949 and participated in swimming as a competitor and lifeguard through the Bristol Parks & Recreation Department.

She became coach of the CCSL Swim League champions of 1969 through 1972, mentoring both the Senior and Junior Divisions, before going on to coach the Bristol Central girls to CCC South crowns in both 1984 and 1985.  She coached the Yankee League champions between 1978-1981 and the Bristol Central boys from 1978 to 1980.

Her most successful protégés were All-State swimmer Mary Acampora and All-State and All-American swimmer Meegan Wright, her daughter.  Her legacy in the pool has been continued through a third generation, that being her grandchildren, James, Faith and Lilly Martin.
