Known for his game of golf, Bristol native Dick Day was a multi-sports athlete at Patterson School, Bristol High School in the mid-to-late 1950s and Union College.

Dick started his golf lessons in 1951 which were provided by Bristol’s Horton Mfg. Co. Through the years, Dick won numerous tournaments and honors.

He captured his first Junior Tournament on the Chippanee Golf Club course in 1952, shooting a nine-hole score of 61. Five years later Dick won the first of several Central Connecticut State Tournaments when he scored a 70 for 18 holes. That same year he finished with the low gross in the Division III Intercollegiate Championships.

In 1960 he won the first of 13 club championships at the Chippanee Golf Club, having won at least one title for five straight decades. He won the New England Seniors Championship in 1997.
