Don played football and baseball at Bristol High School. He played
football, basketball and baseball at Mitchell Junior College, and a year
of football at UConn before entering the U.S. Navy. He continued those
sports in the Navy, playing in Japan’s Rice Bowl as part of the
football team that won the Island Championship.

He coached Bristol Midget Football, and was an originator of the Toilet Bowl. Don sponsored
the Edgewood Little League Mets, the Bristol Cassins of the Hartford
Twilight League and the Cassins semi-pro basketball team of the New
England Basketball Association. He was a committee member of the Bristol
Tramps. He was honored twice by the Tramps when the Bristol Cassins
Baseball team received the Julie Larese Team Award in 1980, and again in
2005 when he was the Ed Lodovico Award winner.

His public service included serving on numerous committees and the city council. As
Commissioner of Public Works he oversaw the construction of Gampel
Pavilion
