The name George Scott has long been synonymous with Bristol baseball. The popular player was honored numerous time in testimonials for his playing, coaching and other contributions made locally to the sport.

He’s first remembered as a member of the famed New Departure baseball club of the 1920s and 1930s and in later years was the town’s oldest active player.

While playing for New Departure, he was described as one of the state’s best in patrolling the outfield. After his playing career was finished he coached and managed. Because of his long involvement in the McCabe-Waters Little League, the Junior Pony League in Bristol renamed itself the George J. Scott Pony League.

He was a longtime member and president of the West End Club and played for its football squad during the 1930s when it faced the best in the country, including teams which were the forerunners to those first comprising the NFL.
