Joe Lowrey is a Bristol native who has had a lifelong involvement in the game of baseball as a player and manager. He was a member of the Bristol City Junior League and State Junior League Championship team in the early 1940’s and went on to play  at Bristol High.

After high school he signed a professional contract with the Boston Red Sox and spent two years at the Class C level in the Red Sox and New York Giants system. In 1949 he received an offer to play professionally in Canada and spent eight years as a player and then manager of the Petersboro Petes. He helped the team to the Ontario Provincial championship in 1949.

He later played for the Bristol Cobras, Forestville Eagles and in the Greater Hartford Twilight Baseball League. After returning to Connecticut he enjoyed a long career as a manager and coach at several levels. He was inducted into the Greater Hartford Twilight Baseball League’s Hall of Fame as a manager in 1997.

He served as an assistant coach at Bristol Eastern for many years and was recognized with the Assistant Coach of the Year Award by the CT High School Baseball Coaches Association in 1992.
