A Bristol native, Joseph “Porky” Santorso was a familiar name in town as a successful entrepreneur and local businessman.

With regards to sports, he’s remembered as an athlete, coach, official, mentor and sponsor. He was a sweater winner at Bristol High, class of 1940, and played on Boys Club teams, including the 1937 state championship basketball team. He played four sports while in the USMC and was offered to transfer to its Sports Division; however, opted to see the world.

He went on to start and sponsor a number of men’s and women’s bowling and softball teams in Bristol and played and coached in recreational softball leagues. He’s a founder of and played for the semi-pro Hoboes, a neighborhood sports club he started with Tut D’Amato and Josiah Grimaldi as youngsters.
