Marjorie Funk, a 1968 Bristol Eastern High School graduate, is considered one of the best female golfers to come from the area.

She was runner-up in the Chippanee Golf Club Women’s Championship in back-to-back years, 1964 and 1965, before winning the tournament in 1967 after shooting a 38 on the front nine. She won the clubs Olive Stafford Memorial Tournament in 1968 and that same year won the club title for the first time, the first of a record seven straight titles.

From 1968 through 1975, a record eight straight years, she captured the Bristol Women’s City Championship. In winning the event on the Pequabuck Golf Course in 1973, she posted a course record 73 for women. In 1999 and 2000, she placed as runner-up in the Greater Bristol Women’s Golf Championship.

Among the top tournaments she won outside of the area, were the Connecticut Women’s State Amateur Championship in 1971 where she played the entire tournament barefoot because of painful bone spurs and the Hartford Times Tournament of Champions the following year.
