A graduate of Bristol High School in 1949, he was a champion swimmer in the freestyle events in both scholastic and Boy’s Club competition.
He held a number of state high school marks in the 40, 50 and 100-freestyle and twice tied the national mark in the 50-freestyle. He qualified and competed in several New England Swimming Meets and captured the 50-free crown once while finishing second in both the 50 and 100-free.
In Boy’s Club swimming, he set a national mark in the 50-free and once placed second in both the 50 and 100-free. He was a first-place finisher at the national level in the 60-yard free and second in both the 50 and 100-free.
Later a Marine pilot, he was killed in a plane crash in 1954.
