Bristol native Ray Taillon swam for the Bristol Boys Club and later lettered in diving at Bristol High. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he swam for the Navy Airfield team and taught water survival to Navy cadets.

As a tennis player, Ray won awards in many city tournaments and served as president of Copper Ledges. A skier since age 14, he earned certificates as an instructor, while competitive in the sport since 1971. He raced for the Mt. Laurel Racing Team which won several league titles. He also competed in the Connecticut Sr. Olympics, winning seven medals in a four-year span.

In 1999, he was a member of the four-man team representing Bristol which took first place in the state Senior Olympics. In the 2010 Senior Olympics, he won silver medals for his downhill, slalom, cross country and snowshoe performances.
