Richard “Rick” O’Brien played Forestville Boys Club Biddy League Basketball, Forestville Little League baseball, basketball and baseball at Callen School prior to participating in basketball, soccer and track at Bristol Eastern as a member of the class of 1966. A point-guard, he went on to become a starter for three seasons of basketball at Assumption College, averaging 10 points a game his senior year.

He played semi-pro basketball for the Bristol Cassins; and he played at the Forestville and Bristol Boys clubs. He also played softball in the local slo-pitch league. His coaching brought him to the Bristol Parks department, Forestville Little League, AAU girl’s basketball, St. Matthew’s and St. Paul, putting in nearly 20 years in doing so. The championship teams he coached numbered many and his time and efforts have also gone into a number of Bristol non-sports endeavors.
