Robert “Bob” Freimuth, a lifelong Bristol resident who learned sports from the best in town, is well known throughout the state as one of the top scholastic baseball coaches.

He has mentored a number of teams through the years in different sports while taking charge of the Plainville High School baseball program since 1985.  “Freim,” as he is nicknamed, has led the Blue Devils to seven state championship games, winning five.

The Plainville “nine” played in four consecutive state championship games between 1992-1995, winning in ’92, ’94, and ’95.  They also captured state crowns in 1999 and 2008.  He was inducted into the Plainville Sports Hall of Fame in 2006.

His teams have won numerous conference titles and he has coached approximately 30 all-state players.  He was named the Connecticut High School Coaches Association “Coach of the Year” in 1996 and was nominated by the American Baseball Coaches Association as “Regional Coach of the Year.”

In 2017 he was honored as the recipent of the Ed Lodovico Award by the Bristol Tramps.
