Tami Chapman, who gained All-State basketball honors in high school and an All-American status in junior college sports, played four years of varsity girls basketball and varsity girls softball and two years of varsity volleyball at Bristol Eastern during the early to mid-1970s.

She went on become a standout in the three sports for two years at Mattatuck Community College before moving on to play both volleyball and basketball at East Stroudsburg State College, Pa.

Among the successful teams she played for were Eastern’s unbeaten basketball and softball teams in both 1973 and 1974 and the conference champion volleyball teams of 1975 and 1976.

She average 20.1 points a game for Mattatuck in 1978. She was the first female to score 1,000 career points in Bristol scholastic basketball and was honored with Women’s Sports Magazine’s ‘‘Athlete of the Year’’ award in 1975.

In 2017 she was honored as the recipient of the Lydia Jabs Bailey Award from the Bristol Tramps.
