A member of the class of 1966 at Penney High School in East Hartford, he went on to graduate from Central Connecticut State College four years later. He coached Girls Tennis at Bristol Eastern between 1976 and 2014 with a career won-loss record of 405-222 for a winning percentage of .646.
During this time, his Lancers captured eight CCC championships and had winning seasons in 30 of the 38 years. His teams were ranked No. 1 in their class going into state play in 1996, 1997 and 2001, with the latter team going unbeaten during the regular season with a 16-0 record.
Between 1994 and 2010 his teams had 17 consecutive winning seasons. He coached 150 all-conference and one all-state player. Tom has said that the greatest gift he has received from coaching is later knowing his former players as adult friends.
