Bristol 9/10 year olds hang on against Meriden; open with win over Plainville, this reported by the Bristol Observer.

The Bristol Girls Little League Softball 9/10 Year Olds hung on for an exciting win over Meriden by the score of 9-8.

Bristol improved its record to 2-0 in District 5 round.

Olivia Darby and Erin Girard paced the offense for Bristol with two hits each. Girard drove in three runs including a two run double while Darby scored two times. Gabbie Schinkel delivered a big two run double in the first inning. Gwen Torresso and Riley Giblin each had a RBI single while Emily Ericson and Catilyn Picatto each chipped in with a hit. Schinkel l pitched a one-hitter and struck our 8. Meriden, trailing 9-3 going into the last inning, rallied to get within one run with the bases loaded but Girard came in to relief as she got the last tow outs via strike-outs. Ericson made a nice defensive play at third base while Zoe Lowe contributed with her base running by scoring the key go-ahead run on a passed ball.

The Bristol Girls Little League Softball 9/10 year old All-Stars began its District 5 round with a 8-4 win over Plainville. Erin Girard pitched a no-hitter while striking out 10. Battery-mate Riley Giblin had a solid game throwing out an attempted steal at third base as Gwen Torreso tagged out the runner. Emily Ericson and Lyzah Corliss paced the offense with each getting two hits Olivia Darby had a double and scored two runs while Gabbie Schinkel and Alison Grozik each had a single. Zoe Lowe contributed offensively with four stolen bases while scoring twice.

Plainville Little League played well defensively with several nice catches.
