Watson Minors Tournament Comes Home

Back To Scrapbooks

In 2013 Forestville’s 8-11 years old Minors All-Stars team won the “Hardware City Tournament” which had been held in New Britain.  FLL had hosted it previously. After their victory Forestville was asked if they would like to take over the tournament again. Accepting the challenge, Jeremy Deprey (President) and Dean Varano (Vice President)  and the dedicated FLL board set out to make it happen.

The tournament runs for two weeks in the middle of July and invitees include teams from Southington South, Southington North, Meriden, Berlin, Rocky Hill and our three Little Leagues, Edgewood, McCabe-Waters and host Forestville.

Players must be between 8 to 11 and must have played in the Minors during the entire season.

The tournament has been well received by the players, their families and the fans that come out to see this competition.

Past Highlights

Berlin had bases loaded, down by 2 runs with two outs when their batter hit a deep shot to right field up against the fence.  The Forestville outfielder (Connor Policarpio) threw the ball into the relay man ( Sean Deprey) who threw as hard and fast as he possibly could to his catcher.
Forestville catcher Mikey Lodge completed a 3 man relay to get the Berlin player out at home.

This stopped a Berlin rally but eventually Berlin would go on to win the game. The Forestville team consisted of five 8 year olds.

Winning only 2 tournament games that year with such a young team, this was a great teaching moment. High fives all around.
